Question

Adobe closing when opening from hyperlink

Good afternoon folks,

We're having a rather odd issue where if the path to a PDF is linked within a Word or Excel document for example. It will open up the document in Reader DC and then close immediately. Now if you have Reader open already, it will open the document just fine. Adobe Reader DC is set as the default, but it still attempts to open the files within Adobe even if another program is set as default.

Any ideas?

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described if the path to a PDF is linked within a Word or Excel document for example. It will open up the document in Reader DC and then close immediately

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

Also please try to turn off the protected mode for testing (Windows Only) Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable Protected mode at startup' Turn off the Protected Mode and uncheck 'Enhanced Security' > Click OK and reboot the computer once.
Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk

You may also try to reset the Acrobat preferences to default as described in the help page - https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

 and see if that works.

Regards
