Oh... I forgot to add.  I learned a long time ago, I have many years of working on systems, that one of the first troubleshooting tips when it comes to software that WON'T install is to... Turn off your virus protection.  Believe me, it cures a lot of installation problems and saves you bundles of money on both headache/blood pressure pills.  LOL.

Disable your virus checking software and you should have no problem installing any version of Adobe Reader.

That's all I had to do.  I'm running Windows 7 on all of my systems (3).  Only had a problem trying to install on one of them with the virus software enabled.  I disabled the virus protection on it and, it installed with no more problems.  I hope this works for you all.  Take care.

    Hello,

I've had that problem too. I've XP pro and all I did was  uninstall the previous version. Run ccleaner to get rid of all the junk left over, rebooted and it then installed fine. Have no idea why as it installed fine on my XP laptop.

    Dear Ron:

As I said, PDF is an ISO standard now and Adobe will have lots of competitions. I am a developer (software, that is, not properties) and I've done programming for PDF processing. It'll be interesting to see how much longer Adobe will dominate the PDF market.

Yes, I came from Taiwan 36 years ago. 2009 is the year of the Ox and the Chinese New Year Day falls on January 26. I wish you a happy, healthy, prosperous year too.

Dear Men-Ching-Lee (Joe) :.. Glad to see you may have reconsidered Foxit...
I'm NOT with Adobe,,just a former user who is extemely pissed with Adobe's lack of interest in their problem...
As you can see this is post #145 & STILL NOTHING,NADA,ZILCH from Adobe techs...I think that if enough people go to Foxit instead of Adobe , that perhaps , just perhaps , Adobe MAY finally get the message...Ya think ??
I am a relative newbie at this sort of thing...I am not familiar with this part of your post : "annotation of the PDF file"....But that's ok with me...
    I hope you enjoy Foxit...
It appears you are of Asian desent.....I don't know if you celebrate New Year's or not , But I still wish you a Happy,Healthy,Prosperous year ahead....Best regards....Ron

    Dear Ron:
You do have a good point about Foxit Reader. Adobe Reader 9 uses 26,972 KB of RAM, but Foxit Reader 3 uses only 10,852 KB (according to Windows Task Manager). Additionally, Foxit Reader 3 allows annotation of the PDF file but Adobe Reader 9 does not. I just re-installed Foxit Reader 3 and am getting familiar with it. PDF is now an ISO standard. I suppose we'll see even more PDF products in the market.

I don't know you if you are with Adobe or just another user like I am. From my standpoint I just want a dependable and efficient PDF viewer. I am not particularly brand-loyal.

    Thanks for the good tips.

    Regards,

    Joe

Dear Men-Ching-Lee: You are welcome...Glad to be of help...

Altho, I am at a loss as to why you had a problem with the link in post #47...Since the links in #47 & #56 ARE exactly the same , it should have worked...

I don't know how big your hard drive is , but you will find that Foxit uses a hell of a lot less space on your hard drive...You might want to think ahead a bit here...

    Either way , I'm glad you're good to go....Best regards...Ron.M

    Thanks, Ronald!

Post #47 does not work for me but post #56 (FTP) does. Now I have Adobe Reader 9 running and I am happy.

I also found out about Foxit and installed it. Its a nice program and I do like it. However, Ill uninstall it in favor of Adobe Reader 9 because I dont want to have two programs of the same function on my PC.

    Thanks again.

Dear Men-Ching-Lee: Read posts #47 & #56...Try the link in those posts (they are the same) & see if that works for you...If not read my post #136 & go to Foxit.com & download their reader..You'll find Foxit HAS a LOT less MB's (meaning a LOT less space on your hard drive needed) & has all the features of Adobe 9....Best regards...Ron

I'm unable to install Adobe Reader 9 on my XP SP2 PC.

I downloaded file AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe and ran it. The setup dialog box showed 99.90% complete and then disappeared. After that, nothing happened. There was no other message that showed what went wrong either.

I uninstalled Adobe Reader 8 and then ran AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe again. Still, I have the same problem. Now I have no Adobe Reader to use at all.

Does anyone else have the same problem and knows how to fix it. TIA.
