I think what is said is that the poster, after installing Adobe Reader 9, first saved the attachment (link) in the .pdf in the email to the hard drive and then opened it from the hard drive. Just clicking on the link no longer opened it directly.

You may still be able to open directly by opening Adobe Reader, click Edit|Preferences|click Internet in the left panel and check the boxes in the right panel. But saving (downloading) the link, while a small nuisance, should still work.

Back in July in post #22, Suzanne Heatherington described a problem of "application not found" on trying to open email attachments with Adobe 9. I have the same problem. Mike Kazlow suggested a remedy which sounds good but which I don't understand! Can anyone give an idiot's guide to solving this one please?

I had V7 of adobe (for XP) and read that I should install V9 for security reasons. I tried to download Adobe 9 a couple of months ago and it invoked my ATI Display adapter installer instead. I thought I was mad and tried in vain to remove my display adapter software so that Adobe could not find the wrong exe.

I gave up and then had another go recently. Having stumbled across the forum and having read all these threads (#45, #56, #75, #76 and others) I have tried (running process monitor and tracing the execution of the adobe utility) I can see the path to the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-8_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_50960\Driver\CCC\setup.exe it is running. Problem is that I can not rename the directory as it seems this is the actual directory windows is using for my device drivers. Moving the file just causes the installer to finish at the 99% mark and do nothing.

I ran regedit, however for an un-installed product, these seems to be an awful lot entries with Adobe in the registry. I sure hope these Adobe people get a better install process sorted.

Dear Ronald Schreiber & others: I have been following this thread for quite awhile now & I am TOTALLY AMAZED that after all this time & effort on your behalf , that Adobe has NOT responded in ANY way...May I reccomend (or insist , if you will) that you get Foxit..It takes up a LOT LESS space & DOES the job...

To Mr. Schreiber: I TOTALLY AGREE with your post #132...I would like to add that I think those unscrupulous thieving CEO's & that whacko Illinois Govenor SHOULD GO to JAIL !!!

To ALL: I want to wish everyone a VERY Merry Christmas (or Hannaka, Kwanza , etc) & a Happy Healthy & Prosperous New Year..( EXCLUDES Adobe)

    graffiti,
You didn't indicate whether you agreed or not? And it's really not a matter of whether I take Adobe seriously or not (to me, it's just another piece of software which is helpful when operating successfully, which in this case it is not), rather I was just making an observation on the times we live in today. Is my observation wrong in your eyes?

Absolutely amazing!!!! I was poster #4 to this thread way back on July 2nd, over 5 months ago. As I write this, this thread now stands at 132 posts and counting as of December 13, and STILL no acknowledgement from Adobe that a problem even exists in installing Version 9 of the reader. No wonder our country is in the shape we find it in this Christmas season. Govenors who try and sell senate seats to the highest bidder, CEO's who want millions of dollars to dissapear from the scene, even after all but destroying the companies they were hired to run, banks going under even as I type this, and a president who all but dissapeared from public view as the country plunged into the deadly depression we are now experiencing. I can only hope my children and grandchildren do a better job than my generation has done with all we have been given to us to appreciate. I guess my point is that Adobe's lack of response in addressing this issue for over 5 months isn't at all surprising to me, it's just another symptom of what's wrong with our country these days. Perhaps a change of leadership will somehow lead us back onto the right track, I can only pray that it does for the sake of our children. Merry Christmas to all of the other 131 posters to this thread. At least we have proven to Adobe that we can be resourcefull without their help.

It took me a long while to solve the issue, but what happened to me was:<br />- My C drive was almost full, yet I tried downloading Adobe 9<br />- Adobe 9 Reader installer asked about some directory, I gave an E drive temp directory, but no other alternatives or chances to specify where to put it. Consequently, the POS started installing on C drive.<br />- Installed crashed because of "disk full"<br />- I couldn't figure out why it had still eaten up almost all disk space. No uninstallings etc. helped.<br /><br />Finally, after trying all possible uninstalls, cleanups, temp directories, etc. I found 113Mb unused crap it had put in "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Desktop\Adobe Reader 9 Installer"<br /><br />I hope this helps someone else! I also recommend e.g. Foxit Reader instead. :-)
