Dear Billie; At the top of this thread it says: Solutions, Products,Support , etc....Click on support...On my computer the next page loads verrrry sloooowly...Be patient...After that page loads you will see a list (including logos) of Adobe products for help on....Click on Adobe Reader...Wait for the page to load....You will then see a "Search" box...Type in "Error 1714" & wait...The next page will be headlined "Knowledge Base Search Results" Scroll down til you see the 3 "Best Bets" in a shaded box...Highlite & click on the center one...Starts off with "Error ,The installation source for this product is not available...."...The next page says "Tech Note"...Scroll down to "Solution #4...There you will find a link to MS Windows Installer Cleanup Utility..Read the Summary , then scroll down to "More Information" Go past the systems it applys to & you will see a download symbol...I'm assumeing you have Windows XP or a similiar OS & you have tried Add/Remove Programs...If not I've done a lot of research & typeing for naught...If you do, copy and/or print the instructions in Solution #4 & download the Utility ( It's FREE ) & run it...That should clear out any remnants of older Adobe...Then , I suggest you use the link I mentioned in my previous post & retry to install Adobe Reader 9...Unless you have a lot of computer savy , I do not reccomend you use any other solution shown...Solution #4 is safe & will NOT cause any harm...Please let me know if this helps you....Best regards...Ron.M

Thank you Ronald for trying to help. However I received the same reply error 1714 the old version will not uninstall. I cannot uninstall version 7.0 nor this 9. That I could not find anywhere on my computer. I have purchased cleaners and nothing will get these faulty adobe readers off my computers.

Regarding the crazy epson copy utility starting when installing reader 9, nothing in this thread would work for me, so I simply renamed the epson folder in program files to something else, ran the reader install, and renamed the epson folder back. In spite of all the other suggestions, this was the simple (and only) one that would allow the install to complete.

This did not work for me when I had this problem, but when I temporarily deleted ECOPY.exe and ECOPY.exe.manifest, the program installed.

I should have mentioned earlier that in my C:\Program Files\epson\Utility Suite\Copy Utility folder there is a file called ECOPY.EXE.manifest. This file did show up when I ran PROCMON. Perhaps disabling that along with disabling ECOPY.EXE would do the trick. Just disabling ECOPY.EXE did not prevent Reader9's installation from opening the Copy Utility screen. But I am through experimenting.

The problem that causes the Epson Copy Utility to popup and terminate the Adobe Reader 9 install at 99.90% can be fixed by renaming C:\Program Files\epson\escndv\setup\setup.exe to setup.bak and then running the Adobe Reader 9 install.
