What is happening with the Adobe people? I never had a problem with ADobe until the security update for 8. Since then I've had lots of problems with adobe not closing, still running in the background (and for some reason makeing the computer sluggish, etc.) I tried to uninstall the update, but it's grayed out. So I uninstalled adobe 8 totally and trying to install 9 and it's a total cluster*ck. Everytime I do it, I get a MSIE msg informing me of a problem adn it closes down MSIE. I'm really sick of this. You conquered the world with your reader, now we are all stuck with using it. This really sucks. is there another program that will display pdf files?

Well I just found out one of my ram chips was damaged :@ and it was a new one too.
OK after removing the damaged memory It installed fine.
A note to all readers, If the nosso installer is crashing your ram is damaged.

I'm having problems with the Acrobat pro nosso installer,
I have a P4 1.7G with 1G ram, a partition with over 60Gigs of free space XP-SP3 Pro(it's an old machine but works for me).
When I start the installer it usually runs up to 60%, I once got it up to 99% and then just crashes with the error:

The extraction failed for an unknown reason. The program has been closed without installing.
    Info ID: 6702.146.228.2.20020
Please send the Info ID to http://www.adobe.com/misc/bugreport.html

My problem isn't really installing but getting the install files from the nosso installer, I started the installer with these switches
    [ AcroPro90_efg.exe -nos_ne -nos_nd -nos_oE:\Acrobat ]
and without eny switches but noting helps :( .
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try doing a system restore to a date prior to the first time you tried to install version 9. Then go into the adobe file in your program files folder. If there are any files there that reference reader 9 delete them as well.

    Now try installing reader 9.

    Good luck.

Just to add to this continuing "struggle" I have 8.12 installed, and then downloaded the install file for Adobe Reader 9. Running the execute file starts the process and then after "decompression" the setup starts not the Adobe program but Direcway or HughesNet installation. Cancelling this (which I do) results in aborting the entire process.

I've seen something very like this (but with a different program I was
trying to install and a different one getting run). It's something to
do with a previous setup program being left over.

Try searching your hard disk for SETUP.EXE files. See if one of them
looks like the Direcway/Hughesnet installer, and when you find it,
    move it.

I am trying to download Adobe 9 as well and I get the following message: "Can't receive essential parameter 15229.305.1023" and then it proceeds to only install 93.3% and hangs up. Have tried several times with no success.

Dear Billie; Congrats...I'm REALLY VERY happy to have been of help...I'm a learning newbie , so when I know I can help , I DO...A quick piece of friendly advice...Be VERY leary of so-called Registry Cleaners (FREE or otherwise )....They CAN cause more dammage than good... Especially one called PC MightyMax..Under NO circumstances go near it..It IS destructive..I have been surfing the web for over 10 mo's...I have been on several computer tech assist websites & MOST do not advise using them...Most of the GOOD tech's will tell you that the risk FAR outweighs the SMALL gains (if any )...Some say not to use them at all, some say once every 2 years...So be carefull with cleaners..Microsoft cleaner CAN be trusted..Good Luck & have fun....Ron.M
