Question

Adobe Reader Error

I use an old work Dell Desktop (64 bit OS) so I can continue to access years of PDF documents.  I had a version of Adobe Reader which worked fine until 9/17/24 when an updated version was pushed out and all of a sudden I could not open any PDF documents.

I am using Windows 7 Professional  Service Pack 1  6.1.7601 Build 7601

At the recommendation of an Adobe chat agent (Aki) I uninstalled the updated version of Adobe Reader and downloaded the 32 bit version (since I am using Windows 7)

Help!  It is not working

The message I get is:

AcroRD32.exe – Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point EventSetInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll

Acrobat Failed to Load Its Core DLL

Can you please provide me with the information I need to get it working so I can access my PDF documents?

Thanks-

Arthur

Thank you, Tariq Dar!

I was struggling for 2 weeks to find a solution and found this post. It worked perfectly. I installed the Windows 7 version of Acrobat Reader and then applied AcroRdrDCUpd2400320180.msp It worked perfectly!. Thank you!

Tariq, how do I do this update to my Windows 7?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe but it is still looking for this ADVAPI32 DLL.

I downloaded the KB3080149 MSU file, doubled clicked, but Windows can't open the file.

Please help...Doug

Hi @doug_1920

There are a couple of ways to do it. Launch Reader > Help > Check for updates. Follow the on-screen instructions and that should be it. If that doesn't work.
You can try this link: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC download the latest patch for Reader available, once downloaded try installing installing by double clicking on the downloaded file.

Let us know if that works.

I am no computer expert.  But I tried a suggestion I found while searching for solutions, and it solved my problem.  Go to Microsoft Update Catalog for Wndows 7.  In search box type "KB3080149".  There is a version of this update for x64 as well.  Download update and run it.  The computer needs to be restarted for update to take effect.  Try opening Adobe and see if it works.  It worked for me.

Thanks for posting, but this didn't work for me (says not for my computer), but another update as posted by David above worked (kb4474419,).

I've been having the same problem as everyone else.  I'm using Windows 7 Home, 64bit.  This may be a solution for everyone.  I did find an early version 9 of Acrobat Reader on the following website: filehorse.com.  I downloaded and installed it, and it's working fine.  Also, when you open a PDF file, the drop down "Help" menu shows: "Check for Updates."' There, you can UNCHECK "Automatic Updates," so a newer version won't install.  Hope this helps everyone.

Would you be so kind as to share the download link with us?

Here's the link to the website download:  https://www.filehorse.com/download-adobe-acrobat-reader-dc/3679/

Make sure you download the "Adobe Reader 9.0" file.  Click the Green 'Free Download' button.  The file is dated: January 21st, 2009.

Until a solution is found to the v24.003.20112 runtime issue, I would recommend installing a previous version of Reader and disabling the automatic update feature.  Here’s the workaround for Windows 7:

  1. Uninstall current version of Acrobat Reader

Start > Run > Control Panel > Programs and Features > select Reader and click uninstall

  1. Download a previous version of Acrobat Reader.  Here’s one example from the Adobe Community which contains a link to a previous version: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader-discussions/where-to-download-old-versions-of-acrobat-reader-that-are-newer-than-october-2020/td-p/13486497/1000
  2. After download is complete, disconnect from the internet and close browser.
  3. Install downloaded file.
  4. To prevent Acrobat Reader from updating automatically, edit the following Windows programs:
  5. Task Scheduler

Start menu > type Task Scheduler> Task Scheduler Library > select Adobe Acrobat Update Task > select Disable, then close program

  1. Services

Start menu > type Services > select Adobe Acrobat Update Service > right click Properties > edit Startup Type to Disabled > click OK, then close program

  1. Re-start computer.

User Sunflower5157 found the solution.
Who would have thought that this is a security issue and Microsoft has an update for it.
Go to: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=kb4474419%22
Find the two links below, for win 7 x32 or x64, download the one you want
Or, go to Google instead and search for "KB4474419", the first link should be the one you need from the official site.
Install the update, restart the computer, and voilá.

Hi guys,

Since this error occurred after the update, I recommend uninstalling it and clearing your registry, or using Revo Uninstaller software. Then, reinstall your previous working version and disable Adobe Reader updates in Windows services until Adobe fixes this issue. So far, this has worked for me.

cheers.
