Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure am.  The symptom I'm getting is that the Acrobat Reader window will sporadically fail to open.  Looking at the process list with Sysinternals Process Explorer, I see that an Acrobat Reader task has been launched for every attempted open, but no windows show.  After clearing out all of the hung tasks, shutting down and re-launching the program trying to launch Acrobat Reader gives some relief for a while.  I have never seen Acrobat Reader display these symptoms before.  As a test, I de-installed Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 completely, and performed a complete fresh install of 11.0.8, which works flawlessly (and had been since it was installed).  I don't want to go back to 11.0.8 because of the security exposures, but I can't get any useful work done in 11.0.9 because I can't reliably open documents!!!  If anyone else knows of an official problem record for this, or is experiencing the same symptoms, or knows of any workarounds, I love to hear about it.

Thanks.

No, I have not experienced this, nor have I seen any similar posts in the forum.

Try if disabling Protected Mode in Adobe Reader makes it work better [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

I too am having this issue. It began with the update to Adobe Reader XI. Opening Adobe Reader spawns the process AcroRd32.exe, but usually nothing else happens. I say usually because once in a great while if I close all the failed spawned AcroRd32s, hold my breath, cross my fingers and spin around counter clockwise in my office three times, it will work. I'm using Win7 64 bit Professional. Perhaps there's a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader I should be using. However, everything was fine until I upgraded. Of course, I've uninstalled and installed AR XI multiple times. That doesn't help.

Decide to try PDF-XChange Editor from Tracker Software. I don't know if it has all the features of Adobe Viewer, but it's free and it actually opens the .pdf file. Seems to have quite a few features. I'm still using Adobe Shockwave, so don't kick me out of the Adobe community ..  yet. Shockwave and Firefox has been particularly problematic for me.

Disabling protect mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)] seems to be working but like another member, I'd rather not give up any meaningful protection.

All, Reader 11.0.10 is out today.  I did an uninstall and full re-install, and so far, so good...

Rats!  Spoke too soon.  It appears to still be happening, but it's not as severe as it was before.  If you keep trying, it will eventually open the document, although this may leave a bunch of hung tasks that have to be purged (or cleared by logoff / logon).  If it's bad enough, go through the original procedure for disabling enhanced security...

I am having the same problem.  I am trying to open a pdf file on a website (that I have done over a 1000 times with an older version of Adobe Reader) but every time I try to open the pdf file all I get is a blank white screen.  Nothing on the screen just blank white screen.  No blue button, no black button, no red X.  Just blank white screen.

I Googled and tried the Edit, Preference, Internet, Remove check mark on open.  Nothing.

I am having troubles with it  use a Windows 7 64 byte.  Thought the first download maybe something was missing..  No such luck, have already downloaded and uninstalled it three times.  Can't we go back to Version 10 or later but not 11?

Try the thing that originally worked for me. First, either log off and

back on (or re-boot) to clear up any hung Reader tasks. If you can bring

Reader up once, go into the Preferences menu (at the end of the Edit menu),

and select the entry for Security (Enhanced). At the very top, underneath

where it says Sandbox Protections, un-check the box that says Enable

Protected Mode at startup. Then close and re-open Reader. Mine works fine

after that, an I can cause the problem to re-occur simply by re enabling

    that check box...

    HTH.

Sorry for the inconveniences.  I could say that the Adobe Reader 11.0.9 has a virus.   I got 2 PC with me different OS. I got blue screens on my XP, and I'm still doing my best on my Win8.1 Entp. So, I'm crossing my fingers right now, hoping I could fix these.  I'm in the middle of a project right now.  Looking forward to it, Adobe should resolve this in the nearest possible time.

For the rest, please kindly uninstall immediately your Adobe Reader 11.0.9.  So, it wont affect any of your systems.  By downloading an Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner.

    I found an interesting things.

When upgrading to 11.0.9, the reader will become no response evert time I open it. And I found some packet was been drop by the firewall. They are called "Acrobat.Cloud". Once we allows the packet goes, the acrobat reader becomes normally  even if we deny the packet later on. I think there must be something happen when the first time the version 11.0.9 connect to the internet.

It appears that you've got firewall configured on your network which is blocking external HTTP traffic from your machine? If yes, can you please share the firewall configuration details in your environment?

i'm having the same problem. get the 'not responding' error on start-up of adobe reader XI, with or without document being opened. am not able to get to 'preferences' before freezing, waiting to unfreeze doesn't happen.  have tried re-installing.  are there other options to deal with this?

We have the same problem on all our computers and it seems MANY others are too.  I used the /lv switch with the 11.09 msp and found that it thinks Acrobat is still 11.07 (help/about says 11.08), so I think the problem is with the 11.08 patch not updating everything as it should.

Is there a de-installer / cleaner for Acrobat Reader? That would (I think)

be your best bet at this time. Cleanup / reset everything and attempt to

    do a clean re-install of 11.0.9.

    HTH.

I was experiencing the same not responding in Adobe 11.0.09 - uninstalled - ran their cleaner (don't know that this was necessary) searched for Adobe 11.0.08 downloaded and installed it - all is up and running again.

    Hi,

We have the same problems here.

    We have 100+ PC.

Since we have deployed the 11.0.9 update some of our PC's have that exact problem. (Not all of it)

We have tried every possible solutions above without succes.

If we put 11.0.8 it works perfectly.

    When is the next release?
