Disable 'send as a link' attachment

Hello,

Until last week, it was possible to add PDF files directly as attachments to a Microsoft Outlook mail.

Now an additional button has been added where a link is shared and the file is shared through Adobe's cloud service.

Is it possible to turn off the option to send the file as a link (and thus upload it to the cloud) by default? So that all files go directly to Outlook as attachments by default again?

Hi @ezraleo_1913,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

Another method to disable this would be through the registry.

To do so, go to the location - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown\cCloud

Create a DWord: bAdobeSendPluginToggle

Value: 1.

This registry key disables the Adobe Send and Track plugin for Outlook, preventing the upload of attachments to Adobe Document Cloud.

You can also control how Outlook behaves with attachments directly. Steps can be found here: https://adobe.ly/4lFMnUI

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Souvik.

Whoever decided that this was the way to send attachments need to be put in prison NOW! This is beyond inconvenient and the stupidest addition I've ever experienced in my professional life.

It took me all day, but figured out how to turn off Adobe PDF link in Outlook:

How do I turn off Adobe PDF link in Outlook?

You turn it off like this:
  1. Click File on the Outlook menu.
  2. Click Options on the File menu.
  3. Click Add-ins.
  4. Select COM Add-ins from the Manage drop-down.
  5. Click Go.
  6. Deselect Adobe Document Cloud for Microsoft Outlook - Acrobat.
  7. Click OK.

You removed the outlook add-in instead of following Adobe’s instructions?

While using Acrobat application:
You can click on file menu >  preferences > email accounts> uncheck send as attachment link
If link generate while attaching PDF in outlook app:-
go to: file menu > options > add-in > go > you will see two Acrobat related add-in,
uncheck document cloud for outlook (keep PDF maker option enable)

Rajveer S - the whole point of this thread is that Adobe's instructions, "uncheck the box", does not work.

Adobe, please fix!

Thanks.

This does not work no matter how many times I uncheck the box.  At this point, I am just going to uninstall the adobe cloud and be done with it.  Who creates these programs that we didn't ask for but are somehow forced to use unless it's uninstalled.  I would guess whoever creates these programs must have forgotten that we all have to be able to navigate through it and should have the ability to control how it works.  But.............here we are.

I disabled the "Always send files as a link" option in Acrobat preferences, but it did not help. I rebooted as well after changing the setting.

Finally solved by disabling the "Adobe Document Cloud for Microsoft Outlook - Acrobat" COM add-in. Very satisfying to see the attachment not automatically converted to a link after doing this!

In Outlook:

- File -> Options

-- Add-ins

--- Manage COM Add-ins - press Go...

---- Uncheck "Adobe Document Cloud for Microsoft Outlook - Acrobat" and press OK

Hi  Rob293861073xdu,

Thank you for your patience so far.

To send the PDF as an email attachment, disable the "Send link in attach to email (Sign-in required)" option in Acrobat Preferences.

Go to Edit > Preferences >  Email accounts on a Windows machine in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. For Mac, Application Preferences > Email accounts.

Refer to the screenshot attached below:

Thanks,

Meenakshi

don't get excited, you have to do EVERY TIME you send a couple of pdf's, it defaults back to the check being in the box
