Acrobat 26.07.51 on iPad intermittently fails to open local PDFs

Hello, I am experiencing significant problems with Adobe Acrobat on my iPad.

Device: iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation)
iPadOS: 26.6
Acrobat version: 26.07.51 (build 20260818.120342)
Subscription: Acrobat Premium

Since around August 28, 2026, some PDF files that previously opened normally have started failing to open directly from Acrobat → Files on iPad.

The files are stored locally under Files → On My iPad. Some PDFs open normally, while others do not. The problematic PDFs open immediately in Apple’s Files app. They also open successfully if I use Open With → Acrobat.

The problem is intermittent: sometimes the same PDF opens only after many attempts.

This does not appear to be simply a file-size issue. PDFs of approximately 1 MB and 30 MB open normally, and a 57 MB test PDF also opened normally. One problematic PDF is approximately 242 MB.

In addition, Acrobat has been extremely slow for quite some time when opening, copying, and moving files.

These PDFs contain important comments and annotations, so converting them to images or flattening them is not an acceptable workaround.

Please let me know whether this is a known issue with Acrobat 26.07.51 on iPadOS 26.6 and whether there is a recommended fix or newer build.

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a similar issue with Adobe Acrobat Reader on my iPad Pro M5.

The problem occurs with PDF files of any size. Whenever I try to open a PDF directly through Adobe Acrobat Reader, the app crashes and closes immediately.

However, if I open the same PDF using the Files app → Share → Open in Adobe Acrobat, it works perfectly.

I've already tried restarting the iPad and reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader, but neither solved the issue.

After some troubleshooting, I discovered that the problem seems to be related to the iPadOS multitasking settings:

  • Settings → Multitasking & Gestures → Windowed Apps: Adobe Acrobat crashes when opening PDFs.

  • Settings → Multitasking & Gestures → Full Screen Apps: Adobe Acrobat works normally, and PDFs open without any issues.

As soon as I switched from Windowed Apps to Full Screen Apps, the problem disappeared.

This suggests a possible compatibility issue between Adobe Acrobat Reader and the iPadOS window management feature.

I hope this information helps the Adobe development team reproduce the issue and find a permanent fix, as I'd prefer to keep the multitasking functionality enabled.

Thanks!

I’m also having this issue. PDFs simply not opening from inside the iPad app. Very inconvenient.

Same here! Acrobat on iPd and iPhone under ios 26.x. Some files work and most are slow. Some do not open, but open fine with the new Apple Preview app.I already deleted and reinstalled the app on iPhone, which deleted all of my my files under the Acrobat directory/folder.

Hi @L.15D5
Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear about it.

We are unable to reproduce this issue in-house. Would you mind sharing a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs along with the sample PDF file so we can get this checked further with our development team and isolate the issue for the fix.

Regards

Amal

Me too. Not able to open any local files. Only cloud files are opening. Reinstalling or restarting iPad is not working

I am having identical issues, I can’t speak for Gianna here, but I have upgraded the new update, and purchased the AI tool for use, and that same day, I lost access to most of my PDFs with delayed openings of the PDFs when they do rarely open.

Ive used this app for 13 years and this is the first time I’ve had problems working with it.

Acrobat has been extremely slow overall for at least two months. Almost every operation is slow, including selecting, moving, navigating, and opening files. Large PDFs eventually open, but the delay is especially noticeable with PDFs containing many annotations. My iPad has 95 GB of free storage, and Acrobat shows 11.39 GB of Documents & Data.

The same large PDFs open successfully in Acrobat when I access them from the iPad Files app and choose “Open with Acrobat.”

Could you check whether there is a known performance issue with Acrobat for iPadOS involving the local file library, especially when there is a large amount of Documents & Data?

Good morning. An assistant told me that I would receive a phone call today at 10:00 a.m. Lima, Peru time. I have not received the call yet. I would like you to confirm whether the call will still take place.

Thank you.
