Deleted Data Enlarged Document

Dear Adobe Reader Community

I have access to edit files and have been deleting some of the text information.

I noticed that after closing the file, it has taken more storage space, as if the file is getting bigger, when in fact I am removing data.

Why would this happen?

I want to edit this post I sent, but I don't seem to have access, so I am going to add screenshots to add my explanation.

The title has been enlarged, but in the images you will notice that the file size has grown from two of the pictures.

The other two pictures show the information that was in the file, then the information that I removed, but the file is still getting larger.

Hi @Jeffrey Timothy Valerie,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

From the first two screenshots, I see that the File Name of the file with an increased file size has a better sentence case without the symbols. So, can't really understand when you say "Title has enlarged." Can you please clarify more about it?

For the size part, Acrobat processes the file to keep the quality intact, and thus, the file size can sometimes increase.

In such scenarios, you can use the compress PDF feature to reduce the file. My recommendation is to compress the PDF once you are done with all the editing to get the final result.

You can learn more about how to compress a PDF from here: https://adobe.ly/4lWFKfL

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Souvik.

Hello Souvik

Thank you for your reply to my issue with the file.

I created a copy of the file to edit it, which included removing the underscore character and adding a word to the filename

I understand that this may change the file size, and I noticed the change of the file size, but I had not completed the editing.

In over two days of editing, I realised that the file kept enlarging after saving the changes I made at sections of the file over the time, closing the file, checking the size and opening it again to continue editing.

The editing I am doing, is removing the answers to questions that I implemented in the original file.

This has given me a further idea to creating a database file with the information that could be ticked as an online form, but initially it was so I could study the file without having immediate access to the answers.

So, I expected that removing data from the file would decrease its file size, but the opposite has taken place.

I am doing this on my mobile phone.

I hope I have clarified this case better.

I understand that I can compress the file, but unsure why the file has grown.
