File name changes when shared via Whatsapp

Help me fix this issue:

Whenever I share a pdf document via whatsapp, the file name automatically changes from, for example, Zachary.pdf to DOC-20230323-WA001 on the receiving end. Same case when I receive a named document. The issue appeared recently after app update.

Hi Souvik,

Thank you for your feedback.

Now, the issue has been resolved when I did "Reset Settings" on my Samsung phone to take back the app to its initial settings.

Best regards

Here are some steps that might help:

1. Rename the original PDF file to a simple name, such as "Zachary," without any special characters or spaces.
2. Try sharing the renamed PDF file again via WhatsApp and see if the issue persists.
3. If the issue continues, clear the WhatsApp cache and data by going to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Storage > Clear cache and Clear data.
4. If clearing the cache and data doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp.
5. If the problem persists after trying these steps, contact WhatsApp support for further assistance.

Hi @steve36507068hzfu,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

As mentioned above, you can use the document option in WhatsApp to attach the files instead of directly sharing the file through Acrobat Reader Mobile.

This should eliminate any sort of renaming of the file or errors when trying to share.

Hope this helps.

mostly these steps work in this situation;
1. Rename the original PDF file to a simple name, such as "Zachary" without any special characters or spaces. 2. Try sharing the renamed PDF file again via WhatsApp and see if the issue persists. 3. If the issue still persists, try clearing the WhatsApp cache and data. To do that, go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Storage > Clear cache and Clear data. 4. If clearing the cache and data doesn't help, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp. 5. If the issue still persists after trying all the above steps, you can contact WhatsApp support for further assistance.

Thanks @SAIMA33951474f636 for sharing the steps.

Our team investigated throughout and the issue was with the way WhatsApp handles files and we do not have any control over it.

Hi @Luca1231 @Md Yusuf320201622gdl @Ganesh30822114fda8 @EldEld

The team has looked into it; this is an issue with WhatsApp, not Adobe.

Once the file has been released from our end to the application to share forward, we do not have any control over how the third-party application behaves after the action is triggered.

I've been experiencing the same problem since the recent WhatsApp update.

It's quite frustrating, I hope you guys address this issue soon and bring back the original file names for shared documents.

Hi @Md Yusuf320201622gdl @EldEld,

This issue is more on WhatsApp than Adobe.

However, let me check this with the team and reply.

Hi Zachary,

I have exactly the same issue; the file name changes to something like this:

DOC-20230725-WA0004..pdf, whenever I sent a PDF file from my mobile phone (Android). However, if I received a PDF file from any devices or I sent a PDF file using Whatsapp Desktop/Web, everything is Ok (PDF file name does not change).

Could you please explain in more detail how you resolved your issue?

My mobile phone is OPPO Reno8 though, different than yours (Samsung).

Thanks

Hi @zachary29062879626m,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for your experience with Acrobat Reader Mobile.

I tried reproducing the issue on my end, but it worked fine.

This looks like a renaming done at WhatsApp's end rather than Adobe's; otherwise, it would have been the same across all platforms.

Have you checked the file name when you sent the file and then went to the recipient's chat window? Does the name change at your end, too, or just the receiver's?

If just on the receiver's end, it is the Application itself, not Adobe.

Hope this clarifies your question.
