Free Trial upgrade not working

I wanted to try out the pro version to be able to export to excel. I subscribed to the free trial & followed instructions to upgrade.  the result is that i have no upgrade & when i open a PDF, it shuts down within seconds... so not even my previous version works now.

There is no error screen to show as everything just closes down.
