HOW DO I KEEP MY FREE ADOBE?

I have the free version of Adobe. Every time I try to open a pdf I get a pop up asking me tonupgrade for a monthly or annual subscription. There is no button to skip this - you either close the window or subscribe! How do I access adobe for free?
