I use Adobe acrobat reader on my ipad (18.3.1) whilst flying with no intenet. If I open before flying all good. But whilst fying I aslo open a note app to make notes and then I go back to Adobe and the PDF will not load (as I am not on the internet) even though i didn't close it but just moved to another app to make notes.

How can I keep the pdf document open whilest I go to other apps on the Ipad.

@amclean4 It sounds like iPad might be closing the Adobe Acrobat Reader app from memory when you switch to the Notes app to free up resources, and when you return, it has to reload the PDF, which fails without an internet connection. iPads have limited RAM, and iOS needs to manage this efficiently. When you switch apps, the system might suspend or even terminate backgrounded apps to free up memory for the app you are currently using. Unfortunately, there's no direct setting within Adobe Acrobat Reader or iOS to guarantee that a specific PDF document will remain loaded in memory while you switch to other apps, especially when offline. iOS aggressively manages memory to ensure smooth performance.

Instead of using 'notes' use 'Google Docs' which can be open without internet; this is what I do, when I work offline when I am trying to conserve my battery in the 'waiting room,' but at the same time, doing some work while Acrobat is opened.

If you truly want to use 'Notes' and not try 'Google Docs,' dependong on your iPad model, it might support Split View or Slide Over multitasking, you could try having Adobe Acrobat Reader open in a smaller window alongside your Notes app. This might keep the PDF loaded as both apps are technically active on the screen simultaneously.

  • Split View: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Dock. Drag the Adobe Acrobat Reader icon out of the Dock and to the left or right edge of the screen. Then, open your Notes app in the remaining space.
  • Slide Over: Open Adobe Acrobat Reader. Then, swipe up from the bottom to bring up the Dock. Drag the Notes app icon out of the Dock and drop it onto the Adobe Reader app. This will open Notes in a floating window.
