Intune policies intercepting personal PDF files

I have Adobe reader installed on Android and is in scope for MAM controls with Intune. For corporate documents this works fine but then when I attempt to open a personal PDF from Gmail for instance the same Corporate restrictions apply.

I would have expected the app to only apply these controls when the PDF is opened from within another Intune controlled application like outlook, i.e. it understands personal vs corporate context.
