Markups not saving on iPad with acrobat

Using an M3 iPad. Markups not saving on PDF files at all. I have already added the credentials for my cloud storage (OneDrive) in Acrobat.

Same issue for me - I just did hours of markups and even saved a copy under a new name and it didn’t save.

Our engineering team investigated the issue and identified a specific scenario that may explain why your annotations appear to be missing.

When a PDF is opened from a read-only shared folder in OneDrive, Acrobat may create a local editable copy of the file. Any annotations you add are then saved to this local copy rather than the original file stored in OneDrive.

As a result, when you reopen the PDF from OneDrive, you're accessing the original version, which doesn't contain your annotations. The annotations may not actually be lost; they may simply have been saved locally because the folder's read-only permissions prevented the changes from syncing back to OneDrive.

To help us confirm whether this is what's happening in your case, could you please check if the OneDrive folder containing the PDF has read-only (view-only) permissions?

You can verify this by reviewing the folder's sharing settings in OneDrive or checking with the person who shared the folder with you.

Once you've confirmed the permission level, please share your findings with us. This will help us determine whether this scenario applies to your issue and identify the best next steps to resolve it.

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble here.

A couple of things would help narrow it down: does this happen specifically with files opened directly from your OneDrive location within Acrobat, or also with files saved locally ("On this iPad")? Also, do the markups appear to save right after you add them, but then disappear after closing and reopening the file, or does nothing seem to save at all, even momentarily? And what's your exact Acrobat app version (Settings or About screen)?

Also, share a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for more clarity.

Please try the workaround and see if that works:

Rather than annotating the file directly from its OneDrive location within Acrobat, save a copy of the file locally first (either "On this iPad" or to Adobe cloud storage), then do your annotating on that local copy. Editing directly on a file that's actively synced through OneDrive is what tends to cause the loss, since Acrobat's save can race with OneDrive's own sync and lose the changes.

Also worth doing regardless: check for a pending Acrobat update and reboot the device once, since Adobe has asked for this in similar reports before troubleshooting further.

Let us know if switching to a local copy resolves it, and your exact app version if not, that'll help further analysis.

Saving locally works. The issue is that it is not saving on the cloud. Saving locally works but is inconvenient to have to keep moving files around.
