A few things would help pin this down:

• Are you using an iPhone/iPad or an Android device?

• What app are you using to try to edit, Acrobat Reader, or Microsoft Word itself?

• And when you say "file in word," do you mean you're trying to convert a PDF to a Word document for editing, or that you're trying to open a Word (.docx) file directly and it won't open at all?

• Also, what exactly happens when you try, does nothing happen when you tap the file, does an error message appear, or does the app crash?

While waiting to hear back, a few general things worth trying:

• Check whether an app update is available on the App Store or Play Store

• Force close the app completely and reopen it

• Restart your device

• Try opening the same file from your device's file manager (Files app on iOS, or your file manager on Android) instead of from inside the app, to see if the problem is specific to how the file is being opened

Let us know your device, which app you mean, and exactly what happens when you try to open a file, that will help confirm the cause.
