Outlook, iPhone 11, and pdf

Question

I sent an email to myself using Outlook on a PC. I tried to open the pdf on my iPhone but it did not show up. Attachment was a dat file which could not be read. I downloaded the Acrobat for iPhone app from the App Store and it installed and is frozen-- I can't get past the welcome screen. I am running iOS 14.3 on a iPhone 11.

I never had a problem in the past opening PDFs using the iOS native email app. Possibly I have a Microsoft problem, but I sure also have an Adobe problem. Help?
