Question

pdf annotations not saved on Adobe Acrobat Reader Ipad app

I am using the Adobe Reader App (version 21.01.02) on my Ipad (OS 14.4) to mark up PDFs with my Apple Pen. Since a couple days ago my annotations are no longer saved. When I click 'done' and reopen the document a few minutes later, all the annotations have disappeared. This happens with any PDF I mark up. I tried reinstalling the Adobe Reader App, restarting my Ipad, sending the PDF as an attachment via email, all to no avail. I rely on the ability to mark up PDFs for my work. Please tell me how to fix this problem. Thanks

This bug is still present on v24.01.02, iPadOS 17.3.1.  Closing a document while making ink annotations results in large portions of those annotations disappearing; hours of hard work lost. Nice one, Adobe.... Sometimes some of them are saved but not all. Same problem occurs whether I save to "On this iPad", or to/from OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox.  The solution for me was to save a copy of the PDF into the "Adobe Cloud Storage".

While still editing the document:

  1. tap the ... in the top right corner and select"Save to Adobe Cloud Storage."
  2. Then tap the home button top left  to close the document.
  3. Select Adobe Cloud Storage in the Locations, and open the new copy of the file there.
  4. Continue editing. When done tap the Home button.
  5. Before closing the Acrobat app, make sure the blue ring next to your document name fills up and disappears. Then you know for sure it saved the changes to the cloud.

Now, I shouldn't have to use Adobe's own cloud storage to make this feature work. But it's the only reliable way for me. It means when I'm offline (ie on a plane) there is a risk that none of my changes get saved to 'On this iPad'.  Which is insane.

I just lost a whole day's work. First of all, I am not using Adobe anymore. However, the glitch is here: If the annotations button is still selected before saving the document anywhere, it will not save the annotations. However, if you press on the pointer, you can save, and they will appear normally. Unbelievably frustrating!

It happened to me today! It was fine before . Im using 24.07 version. The annotations are really important to me and I couldn't get to access it. Tried opening the file from my google drive & acrobat but to no avail.

I have the same issue when marking up pdfs from mail. Changes are lost when forwarding the mail. This has been quite costly for me.

Hi @Matt Ferrey

Would you mind sharing a few more details to understand the issue better?

1. Is it happening with all PDFs or some specific?

2. If possible, could you share a video recording of the issue?

3. Application version?

Make sure that the app is updated to the latest version.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,

Harsh

Hi, I'm no tech expert, so let me try in simple terms.

I receive documents as pdf attachments on my Ipad, which previously I could open in Mail, sign/write on, and after hitting the "done" button, could reply to the mail with the attachment carrying the pdf with the signatures etc. Currently, only the first signature is saved, the rest are lost.

I hope that's descriptive. I use an Ipad Pro and an Apple Pen, with all updates done. It used to work perfectly before.

Thanks so much for your help...

Same here, since the last update (21.02) of adobe acrobat pdf, the app is not capable of saving the annotated files in OneDrive. Even if saving a copy to "On this Ipad", the annotations are gone.

The only way I found that annotations are saved is starting OneDrive, selecting "Open in another app" option and select adobe. Once open, I annotate the pdf, click done and a new file (containing the annotations) is automatically saved locally in "On this Ipad".

I just did a few more tests and noticed that annotations are saved on PDFs in Dropbox, but not on PDFs in the OneDrive cloud. Maybe the bug concerns the ability of Adobe Reader App to save annotations on PDFS to OneDrive only.

This is really helpful. Can you share a few more details please

  1. When you open the file from OneDrive, are you starting in Acrobat, One Drive, the Files App, or somewhere else?
  2. If you start in Acrobat, are you using the configured OneDrive connection (under the Acrobat Files tab, there is an option to add "OneDrive" as a storage location which enables you to browse OneDrive directly from Acrobat).
  3. Or, are you using "Browse more files" and navigating to OneDrive that way?
  4. When you view the saved PDF, are you viewing it in Acrobat, or in OneDrive, or somewhere else?

Thank you!

Hallo,

I am starting in Acrobat, using "Browse more files" to navigate to
OneDrive . I'll try adding "OneDrive" as a storage location.

Thanks!
