Voice feature doesnt pronounce 'f'

Hey everyone, I was reading a book about "confidence" and when using the text-to-read feature it was always pronounced as "con-dence". I noticed for other words that also had f in the middle, it doesnt pronounce the f. It has no problem when f starts or ends the word but only when its in the middle of the word. I wonder if this could be fixed.

Furthermore, Ive been unable to download other accents. It shows error whenever I try to download.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details.

I understand you’re unable to download additional accents in the Read Aloud feature on your Samsung A21 running Android 12. Please note that the availability of different accents and voices in the Read Aloud tab depends on the text-to-speech (TTS) engine installed on your device — not directly on the Acrobat app itself.

Here are a few steps you can try:

  • Go to your device Settings > Accessibility > Talk Back > Settings >  Text-to-speech > Preferred Engine.
  • Verify which TTS engine is selected (e.g., Google Text-to-Speech or Samsung TTS).
  • Tap the gear icon next to it and look for an option to download additional voices or accents.

Update or reinstall your TTS engine:

  • Make sure your Google Text-to-Speech or Samsung TTS app is updated to the latest version from the Play Store.
  • If the voices still don’t appear, try clearing the app cache and restarting your phone.

Recheck in Acrobat Reader:

Once you’ve downloaded the new voices, open Acrobat Reader > Read Aloud tab, and check if the additional accents are now available.

Thanks for your help and response.

I've been able to resolve it. It had to do with the power saving mode. When it was turned on, for some reason, the download failed but it works when its turned off. So Ive been able to download more accents.

Thank you so much.

I just realised the main issue is it cant pronounce words with "fi" such as fine, find, etc... it skips the fi and spells out the rest of the word.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat app and the OS you are using? Tap on the profile icon > About Acrobat and try updating the app to the latest version available on the App/Play Store and reboot the device once.

Also share a small video recording of the steps and the issue as it occurs and the sample PDF file to check it at our end.

25.9.1.41449 is the version and app is fully updated.

I realized it was the pdf file. I downloaded a different version and it could pronounce "f". The issue I mainly have now is with the inability to download other accents in the read loud tab. Im using a Samsung A21 Android 12.0

For some reason I could download other accents on my Samsung A6 but cant on my main device which is Samsung A21.
