Why does Acrobat take so long to open large PDF files?

I often work with large PDF files that contain many pages and images. Sometimes Acrobat takes quite a while to open the file, and occasionally the app becomes slow when scrolling or searching through the document. Is there a recommended way to improve Acrobat's performance with large PDFs without reducing the document quality?

    Hi @Adorable_Cosmos4a36

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. I understand how inconvenient it is to wait for large PDFs to open and to see slow scrolling and searching while you work.

To help us guide you, could you please share:

    1. Whether you use Acrobat Reader or Adobe Scan on Android or iPhone/iPad, your device model and OS version, and the app version.

    2. The approximate file size and page count of the slow PDFs, and whether they are mostly images or scans.

    3. Where the files are stored when you open them (on your device, in the Adobe cloud or in another cloud storage).

    4. Whether the slowness happens with every large PDF or only specific ones.

In the meantime, if you have an Acrobat subscription, you can create a smaller copy of a PDF in Acrobat on mobile. Open the PDF, select More options > Compress PDF, choose a compression level, and select Compress. Low compression keeps the best quality, Medium keeps good quality, and High gives the smallest size with lower quality. The steps are in this article: https://adobe.ly/4yIbV9U

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Amal
