Digital signature plug in limitations

I have an Acrobat plugin for digitally signing PDFs. It's focused on handwritten signatures and, as such, doesn't need to support either Time Stamp or invisible signatures. Is there a way to tell Acrobat not to use my plug in for those functions? Alternatively, can I tell if I'm being called for those functions and return a code for cancel/error (possibly after displaying an error message)?

Sorry, I obviously need to make myself clearer: I am developing the plugin. I am combining a digital signature (ie, using a certificate) with a handwritten signature for the appearence in the PDF.

My question is about how I interact with the Acrobat plugin API so that either the functionality my plugin doesn't support is disabled or it can "fail more gracefully" if it is called to do a time stamp or invisible signature

Yes, being clear about really complicated stuff is pretty important.

Along those lines, you haven't told us anything about how you implemented this plug-in. Which is also really important for us to know if you want some advice.

For example, Did you create a security handler? or any other kinds of handlers, or anything that is registered with Acrobat (other than a button or menu item)?

Cause if you didn't, then there is no way the plug-in would be used by Acrobat for Time stamps or Signatures.

But if you did, then why?  What exactly do you want this plug-in to do?

I think you MIGHT BE using the term 'digital signature' wrongly. Is there a certificate involved? How does the handwriting become part of the signature?
