We make books, and our client just changed from PC production to MAC - and the headlines, subheads, and all big fonts go crazy  alternating or messing up  caps and lower case.

What causes this - how can we fix it.  Thanks

    Hi J. Polmar,

How were the original PDFs created? Are the headers and footers graphic elements? It sounds like there may be an issue with the Optical Character Recognition that ExportPDF is performing when you convert the PDF file to Word. You may have better luck by disabling OCR as outlined in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel. Note, however, that when OCR is disabled, text that's part of an image in the original PDF won't be editable in the converted document.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Hi Sara,

No that/s not it. We use 6 different programs to convert pdf to text.  And the reason is that some handle tables and columns

some handle fonts better, and when all else fails we use exportpdf.adobe.com.  And that's where the lEttEr PrOblEm is.

The other converters have more problems that Adobe - but take far less time, so we try them first.

NONE of the text with issues is graphic or embedded in graphic.

This is mind blower to us - and it's only mac pdf conversions to MS word

    Hi Jay,

Since the files convert with varying success in a number of different converters, it sounds to me that they may not be well-formed PDFs, or that the fonts used in the PDFs weren't embedded. What do you see when you open one of the PDF files in Adobe Reader and look at the Font tab in the Properties dialog box (choose File > Properties to open the dialog box). What fonts are there, and are they embedded or subsetted?

    Thanks,

    Sara
