AI file with Transparent Background is NOT Transparent

I've purchase a photo from Adobe Stock with a transparent background. However, while it says it is an AI file, when I open it in Illustrator from my Library or just open it from my hard drive, and look at the layers, there is only 1 layer and it contains the checkerboard grid indicating transparency. The grid is NOT on it's own background layer and I cannot delete it. The checkerboard is embedded inside the image itself.

It appears the image is a JPG, not an AI file.

I need it to have transparent backgrounds so I can overlay them on top of video footage.

Please advise.

That is not the solution. As an .ai file it has no layer that I can remove to get rid of the grid pattern" and it is NOT transparent.

Hi @rain_1,

I'm sorry this happened. The file is not as it should be and I've notified our content review team to take a look at it. I've also granted you a replacement license so you can choose a different file.

This file says it is available as AI or JPG, but you have to choose (it doesn't download both).

I chose and it downloaded as an .ai file.
