Credits won't roll over to next year?

I have been told that "if you do not use the credits it will not rollover to next year, it will once again start with 40 credits a month for the next term and a term is consist of 12 months.".

This is not what I remembered, I'm pretty sure that in the past, the accumulated credits were not lost as long as the subscription was renewed.

Am I just getting confused with age, or have the policies changed recently?

Credits continue to roll over as long as you have an active subscription; however the maximum amount of credits that can roll over is generally 12 times your monthly entitlement. For example, a 10-asset-per-month plan can roll over up to 120 assets, at which point no further accruals occur until you spend some of those credits.
