Downloading .AI Files Without Illustrator

I am looking to download an .AI file from stock and need to send the layered file to an artist. However, I do not have access to Illustrator. I am getting an error message in Adobe Acrobat when attempting the download.

Is it possible to download a layered file in order to just email it to an individual with Illustrator?

    Hi Jeff,

    The .AI files are best previewed in Adobe Illustrator only.

    You may try to open them and check on Adobe Photoshop but we don't really advise the same.

    You can try the trial version of Illustrator currently.
