License for Commercial Use and Royalties for the Artist

I'd like to feature some of the stock photos on a new product. What type of license do I need? Can I contact the artisit directly to work out a royalty agreement? Without needing a mangifying glass for the extra fine print what exactly are legal uses for Adobe stock photos?

No you may not contact the artist directly. The intermediary between Contributor and Buyer is Adobe, and they're not going to relinquish their position. You really must read the entire Adobe Stock License Agreement to understand your rights and obligations, even if it means expanding the text size! A summary of uses and which license type is required is shown here:

https://stock.adobe.com/license-terms?state=%7B%22ac%22%3A%22stock.adobe.com%22%7D

You didn't mention what product you're intending to use the stock assets on, so it's not possible to comment on which license type might be required.

So, Adobe makes the hard work to build a database of curated assets, and you simply want to put Adobe as the middle man out of business. This does not work like that. If you have a specific job, you need to use other platforms that offer for hire work.

There is no extra fine print. The licence terms are straight forward.
