Question

PLEASE give us bigger comp images!!

The little 3 x 4 previews we are allowed to download are not large enough to see how crisp the image detail is. I am more inclined to work with Dreamstime, Masterfile, or even shutterstock and istock, because they allow me to download full size comps with an account. Most are low resolution, but at least I can see the screen image at the size I will be using it for a full bleed 8 x 10 page. I am so tired of thinking an image will be fine and then when I purchase and download there are issues with fuzziness that I couldnt see in the comp. The only reason I use Adobestock is because a particular client prefers to use their Adobe subscription first before looking elsewhere. Otherwise, it's just not cutting it. For what we are forced to pay monthly for Adobe CC, you could at least give us this.

For what it's worth, in theory Adobe have a review process that should make sure all images are pin sharp and technically perfect. Though this seems to work best with photos, much less well with illustrations where there seems to have been much lower expectations, and some catastrophically bad AIs have been accepted (but are now being weeded out). Time is money, but if you have the time you can complain here (please give image numbers), and Adobe staff will in time see the complaint and pass it on.

It's not always "technical perfection" that is my concern. My client has specific requirements on what can and cannot be part of an image they will allow, and too shallow of a depth of field is a big one. Sometimes this is obvious, but other times its subtleties that I cannot quite see on a tiny comp, like too many areas are slightly out of focus or the area I would prefer to crop to is out of focus. Or that some of the bright red areas in a poinsettia shot, for instance, are so saturated that all definition has been lost and there are no longer shade/tone variations in that hot red color. Or the image is grainier than I would like for a large printing. Things like this that may not be considered necessarily a "technical" issue, and could  be considered more personal preference, but they are things I look for to narrow down my search. I don't have the time or energy when sifting through hundreds of images on a deadline to pick out individual images to complain about and wait for a response. I would like to just see what I need to see at that point in time, or else I'm going to revert to a different site. Thanks for the input though.  🙂
