A Global setting for Date field?

Is there a way to override the default setting for how the date field is displayed? I always want it to be mm/dd/yyyy, but every time I add the date field I have to manually set it to be so in the properties. That's fine if I'm only adding the field once or twice, but most of my documents require me to do it 20-30 times. Is there a way to set a default for the date field that is tied to my account?
