Acceptable electronic signatures

Hello,

I often have issues with forms being signed I receive for my company electronically.  Alot of times we get forms that just have a typed in cursive font.   I thought it had to have the digital time stamp proving password protected and signed by the actual individual.  Are there other means proving it's a legitimate signature?
