Question

Adobe sign password protects merged documents

One of our users found me with this issue - all help is appreciated.

This is what it looks like:

  • user signs the document
  • merges it with another .pdf
  • sends it to someone else for signing
  • the person can not open it as it became password protected

So the question is, why is this happening - there is no protection set up - and how can we avoid it?

Attached is the `doc properties` after the merge.

Hi rchrd42,

Thank you for reaching out.

We have checked the screenshot that you shared above. It shows that the document has password security.

Could you please let us know why the document is merged and secured with the password?

If you send the password-secured document, the user will require to password to open it.

Would you mind sharing the steps you did to send the merged document?

Are you sharing the PDF via email?

It would be helpful if you could share the step-by-step workflow.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi,

As I mentioned above, the document becomes password protected after the merge. The user doesn`t password-protect it.

It`s then been shared via adobe sign.

Thanks,

Could you please confirm the application used to merge the documents?

In Acrobat, you require to secure PDF with a password manually. It does not automatically password protected.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
