Can't apply jpg signature with Reader DC

I cannot apply my signature to a doc; but can can with other docs. 

I get the error message, "The operation failed because Adobe Acrobat encountered an unknown error."

I'm on latest Reader version, and on MacOS 10.15.7.

Please advise.
