Can transient documents be submitted with form fields?

Hi,

I see that the API allows you to add form fields to a transient document that you've uploaded.  My question is -- if I have a PDF with fillable form fields and I send that out to be filled in and signed, do I have to use the API to re-establish the form fields, or does Adobe Sign recognize the fields and pass them through?  For example, if I have a form with a set of radio buttons and I upload it as my transient document, will those radio buttons automatically appear and be functional to the recipients, or do I have to use the API to add the radio button functionality back in?

Thanks.

Greetings!

Adobe Sign will respect the fields placed on a PDF when it is uploaded. You do not need to fiddle with those fields assuming:

  • The PDF is created in a way that Adobe Sign recognizes.  There are a ton of PDF creators out there, and many take their own spin on what their flavor of PDF requires. If you happen to have a PDF creator that does not include what Adobe Sign is looking for, you might have problems.
  • The fields added are understood by Adobe Sign.
  • There's nothing preventing Adobe Sign from opening the PDF. Securing the PDF will cause it to fail on upload.

Be aware that recipient roles are not assigned (unless you use text tags to define your PDF fields), so if you have multiple recipients, you may need to edit some field properties in the authoring environment

I would recommend trying it!  A free Developer account is a good option if you don't have one, and are hesitant to use your production environment for such things.

Thanks, I thought that was the case, but the docs were just a little unclear.
