Date formula for 1st of the month following an existing date field

I would like to create a calculated field where the date returned is the first of the month following the date of hire, which is a field filled out by the employee. Doing date([date of hire])+30 doesn't work because it'll add 30 days to the date rather than returning the 1st of the next month. Any ideas?
