Documenting that you sent a private message

When you send a docuement and use the Private Message feature, is there a way that the sender can document that they have done so? It does not show up on the audit trail or in your inbox. Also, when you open up the completed, signed document, it only shows the public message that was sent.  Asking for any advice/input! Thanks!
