Dynamic number of checkboxes

We are looking for a solution for documents that have a dynamic number of checkboxes. There might be one, or there might be three, or there might be 20.  Is there any way, either through the web interface or the API, to handle this? I have seen two other products that will scan the document for [tags] or certain strings and place signing controls at those spots.  Does Adobe support functionality similar to this? Our goal is to avoid users having to manually drag 1 to 20 checkboxes onto the document.
