  • I cropped the photo for this post because the file size is larger than 5mb

What was the reason for rejection?
I can't make a judgment without seeing it in a larger size.

The shadow of the person off-screen on the right side is bothersome.
    It's an unnecessary element.

Another option, if you have Photoshop:

Select File > Export > Save for Web…

This will give you the following interface. Select JPEG, then check Optimized and Embed Color Profile (which should always be sRGB, by the way, as per Adobe’s requirements), then input the highest Quality number that you can while keeping the result under 5M (lower left corner). You can probably create an Action that will do the bulk of these steps for you.

Legacy Save for Web is based on ancient Image Ready technology (1998-2007). IMO, it’s unfit for modern use.

File ⇒ Export ⇒ Export As is better at optimizing images for the web.

To reduce file size to under 5MB, adjust quality or image scale %, to suit.

It’s a shame in any case that a) the limit has been set from 10M to 5M and 2) posted jpgs are further being converted to webp, and we don’t know its being done so at lossless quality or at a certain degree of lossy.

we need to see the full image. Still, the shadow of the photographer in the photo is enough to reject it.
Here is a small Windows program that I wrote to downsize images so that they can be uploaded here in the forum.
    Photo Downsizer.zip
I offer no guarantees with the program.

Try not to crop. Composition can be a common reason for rejection. Instead, reduce the entire image as little as possible as a jpg (quality 8 usually does the trick) to keep it under 5MB. I know, it’s a pain. The limit used to be 10MB and even then, it was sometimes difficult to post an image at the size originally submitted for review.

    Hey @belindamora1015

The images are a not exactly clear and in focus.
there are quite a few distractions as well.

Have a look at what has been accepted as well:
