Question

Clarification Regarding PNG Option for vector assets.

Hi, A few days back, I uploaded 10 annual report cover designs in vector format to my Adobe Contributor account, and all of them were approved. However, while adding gray backgrounds to the designs, I reduced the opacity of the background in two of them by mistake.

As a result, even though the files were approved, those two designs are now showing the "PNG download option" in addition to the AI/EPS and JPEG formats (screenshot attached).

My question is: Should I delete these two files and re-upload them after fixing the background opacity to 100%? Or is it nothing to worry about?

This happened unintentionally, and I want to clarify that I had no intention of enabling the PNG option to gain an advantage. I just want to avoid any misunderstandings or potential warnings from Adobe in the future.

Thank you.

If the error makes the file unusable for the Buyer, delete, correct and resubmit; otherwise a Buyer might complain and request credit which could initiate a review of your account.

Nobody doing annual reports will seriously download these assets as JPEG or PNG. I wouldn't worry about this.

Hi Rich, I guess that - when an asset has been accepted - the reviewer adds the categories that describes better the assets. For example, I uploaded a PNG set as PNG and now it shows as PNG and JPEG. What I mean is that the FORMAT category seems to be assigned by the reviewer.  Consider that in Illustrator, you can export an AI/EPS file as PNG as well. Maybe with the internal system they have already translated your file as PNG, giving more chances to customers.

Hi Suomii,
Adobe automatically adds the PNG option to a vector file only if there is no background present in the design. However, if you include a background in the vector file, Adobe will not assign the PNG option to your vector files. In my case, I had accidentally reduced the opacity of the background in my designs, which made the artboard partially visible in Illustrator. That’s why Adobe added the PNG option to my files.

For the designs I want to offer as PNG, I always upload them without a background. For the ones I don’t want to offer in PNG format, I include a background. However, due to the opacity issue, some of those designs are still being offered in PNG format.

I understand your concern because the customers who will purchase it as PNG will not have a full clean background. Well, if I were in your shoes, probably I would delete the assets and re-upload them, for not incurring in any future complaining.
