Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to connect to an SFTP server from my Windows computer to drag and drop all my files.

Any advice would be helpful!

Do you have login credentials? You can only upload sftp when you have the "learn more" link.

If you do not have that, SFTP is not enabled for your account, and you can't use SFTP.

And using Filezilla is recommended.

Method 1: Using Windows File Explorer (No extra software)

This is the best method if you want the FTP server to appear like a regular folder on your computer.

  1. Open "This PC": Open any folder, then click on This PC in the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Start the Wizard: Right-click anywhere in the empty white space of the window and select Add a network location. (Or look for the button in the top menu ribbon).

  3. Select Custom: Click "Next" twice until you see "Choose a custom network location." Select it and click Next.

  4. Enter the Address: Type the address of your FTP server. It must start with ftp://.

  5. Log On:

    • Uncheck "Log on anonymously" (unless it is a public server).

    • Enter your User name.

  6. Name It: Give the folder a name (e.g., "My Office Server") and click Finish.

  7. Password: A prompt will appear asking for your password. Enter it and check "Save password" if you don't want to type it every time.

The FTP server will now appear under "Network Locations" in This PC.

Method 2: Using a Dedicated Client (FileZilla)

This is the best method if you are transferring large files, thousands of files, or need a more stable connection. Dedicated clients handle connection drops much better than Windows Explorer.

  1. Download: Download and install a client like FileZilla (free and open source) or WinSCP.

  2. Open the Client: You will see a "Quickconnect" bar at the top.

  3. Enter Details:

    • Host: Enter the address (e.g., ftp.example.com).

    • Username: Your username.

    • Password: Your password.

    • Port: Enter 21 (for standard FTP) or 22 (if you are using SFTP/SSH).

  4. Connect: Click Quickconnect.

  5. Transfer:

    • The Left side shows files on your PC.

    • The Right side shows files on the Server.

    • Drag and drop files between the two sides to upload or download.
