Question

Could anyone give me an idea of why these images were rejected?

Hi all,

I submitted the attached photos, and they were all rejected with the only issue given being “Quality issues”.

I can’t see anything wrong with them myself, and a couple of them have been well-rated by external judges in a recent camera club critique evening, so I’m not sure what I’m missing?

One point to make is that these are reduced size images to fit within the forum’s 5Mb attachment size limit.  The originals were around 25Mb each.

Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

What type of camera did you use? I’m assuming they are from a drone, given the angle. And if so, therein lies a possible problem. Quality from drones may not be so good when enlarged due to a smaller sensor, despite the MB size. Same issue with smartphones.

I don’t think property issues is a problem here.

Check your color balance. Whites should be neutral white, not tinted.

Read the section on Property Releases and Known Image Restrictions in your Contributor User Guide.

Just because a building is old, open to the public or a UNESCO Heritage Site doesn’t mean you can use it for commercial purposes without permission. Property restrictions vary quite a bit from site to site and region to region. Check the site’s website for more details.

You cannot register images of landmark facilities.
    Please submit a property release.

A vast number of photos featuring the sea have already been registered.
The review process itself is strict.
It is unlikely that an image will easily pass the review unless it incorporates other themes or keywords.

    Thanks for the answer.

Could you expand a little on “You cannot register images of landmark facilities”, please?  I understand that you can’t submit images where the architect might sue over copyright, but that wouldn’t apply to Eastbourne Pier, which was completed in 1872, would it?

Have you read the Stock Contributor Help?
Many helpful tips are listed there.
If you haven't read it yet, I recommend doing so.

Since the pier has a distinctive shape and also serves as a commercial facility, a property release is generally required.

This is a tough one, given the file size restrictions. I’m not familiar with the building but there might be some IP issues involved, and the moderator can only select one reason for refusal. I wonder if you could copy and paste a section of the full sized image, an area with some detail, and upload that at the 5MB limit so that we might be able to better detect some focus issues, noise, etc?
