Question

Does an empty, unactivated 10-year-old Adobe Stock account contribute to the lack of sales?

I'm after my first year on Adobe Stock, I uploaded 800 files and only earned $16. However, I see people on forums writing that they also just started and after their first year, they earned between $400-700 on Adobe Stock alone, with, something like 2,000 content. Based on this assumption, with diverse content on topics such as ecology, agriculture, power plants, factories, the construction industry, architecture, tourism, landscapes, backgrounds, and illustrations I should have earned at least $50-100. My first thought is that people are lying about their earnings, or that Adobe has some algorithm that gives better rates to people from more developed countries.

But I also wondered if Adobe sometimes boosts new accounts that are recently created? Could there be a problem with my account, that I started mine when I started Behance around 2013, and since then, my account has never been used, and now it's listed as less trusted?

It's similar to Instagram or TikTok accounts, where new accounts get a better start. I know because I tested it, and it works on TikTok.

So, hey Adobe, what's the deal? Should I close my account and start over?

Before I share anything, do not close your account!

Here is my experience:

I started 12 months ago, and completed the year with 2500 photos and videos uploaded.

Today on Adobe Stock, I'm selling a sustainable rate of about 30 assets/$35 per week.

Here is the thing, all my sales are are made by less than 250 photos and videos.

Which means that 90% of my assets have not sold once. I can also definitely say that increase in sales moves the algorythm in our favor, idk if it exposes more of your work or what, but sales clearly have accelarated in the last 3 months. Think of this, it took 5 months to sell the first 100 assets, about 10 weeks to sell the next 100, and today I'm selling about 120 assets per month, with last week the best beek ever in sales and downloads.

I believe the best you can do to promore your work is be consistent in uploading, meaning that if you only upload 12 assets per month (very little) is better to upload 3 per week. As to what you shoot, that's trickier, you certainly want to give the market what it wants, but you should also prioritize what you like.

Today my library is less than 5% models, and all are of my wife, which is very easy for me to improvise. I am certain that the best selling images are of people doing real things together. These shoots take a lot of planning and time to execute. And I do believe it's possible to generate $300-400 per month for someone who started 6 months ago  6 and is  uploading great lifestyle work.  So logically I am planning shoots with people as one of my goals for 2026.

Keep in mind I also upload to Getty, so my combine revenue for the two is approximately $160 per month as of today, and the graphs show in about 10 weeks I will be selling $55 per week... with my monthy upload goal remaining at 100 photos and videos.

Again, don't delete your account, I hope you find this helpful and encouraging, and you tap to the creator in you and make 2026 your best year shooting stock.

Cheers!

I won't close my account; these were just my thoughts. I add an average of 10 upload a week, sometimes more.

The only thing I can do now is fix my tags and titles. In the first batch I added at the beggining, there was chaos in the tags and too long titles, I will correct them now.

I checked with chatgpt. For my account, it recommends limiting titles to max 10 words and max 25 one-word tags. What do you think?

Yesss, improving tags is wise. I search tittles in the buyer's side and use words that show up there.

Cheers!

Don't believe everything you see on the Internet.  People exaggerate. 😶

To make consistent sales at Stock, you need a diverse portfolio:

  • 2,000+ high demand assets,
  • in keywords that have little competing inventory,
  • to which you regularly contribute new content
  • The more you sell, the more customers will see your products, which helps generate more sales.

Starting over won't help you. Stock Contributors can no longer have multiple accounts.  But becoming more active will help.

Many things have changed since you first joined. Re-read your Contributor User Guide.

I am certain that some Contributors are dishonest about their sales levels. 800 is a rather small portfolio. The general rule of thumb is that you need at least 2,000 assets to achieve a regular stream of sales, but even at that level you aren't "guaranteed" to earn hundreds of dollars a year. Your lack of sales could be because your assets have a lot of competition, or your titles and keywords do not accurately and thoroughly describe your assets. You should strive to slowly but steadily grow your portfolio, always looking for underserved niches. Search the database before creating new assets to see how many similar images already exist. If your search returns thousands of results, keep looking...

As far as starting over is concerned, in the last 6 months, Adobe has been rejecting assets that they probably would have accepted a year ago. But their quality standards appear to have become even stricter, and thousands of assets are being rejected for similar content. Not to mention the fact that they have set limits on how many assets can be submitted at one time. It would probably take you two to three times longer to build a portfolio of 800 assets than you managed to do a year ago.

I assume that some contributers do lie about their earnings. No Adobe does not promote according to where you live. Adobe promotes on assets that are in high demand and that have sold in the past. Also, newer assets are promoted before older assets that have never sold.
800 assets is not very many.
No. Do not close your account. It is to your advantage to continuously upload assets.
