Question

Drastic decrease in monthly earnings

Hi, I need your opinion and experience.

I'm a stock contributor for around 3 years and I've been doing pretty well from 2024 Q4 to 2025 Q2, but after Adobe started increasing rejection rates, my statistics suddenly got down. I was making 1000-1200 USD per month but now I barely make 250-300 USD/month. I wonder what caused this sudden change. Is it because after that rejections, my rejection rate has gone more than 5 percent? Before that I had a 96-97 % acceptance rate. Also, after that period, I started uploading only non-AI photos and vector illustrations and I'm submitting almost daily.

I'm starting to lose my hope and it's really hard to keep my motivation to keep going. It's really effecting me emotionally and I feel burnt out. I can really use your opinions and ideas.

Thank you

I don't know anyone who earns that much royalty income from Stock. That might happen occasionally, but not consistently. To support a royalty income that size requires a massively large & diversely populated portfolio of high-demand assets. And the good fortune of being on top in search results.

I view Stock as a side-hustle. A few hundred dollars in extra spending money is a reasonable expectation. Anything over & above that is a bonus. Customer buying habits change like the wind. Warm to hot some months and cool to frigid in others. It comes with the territory.

If you want to maximize your earning potential, submit more videos. They cost more to license & Stock pays 35% in video royalty fees vs 33% for low cost images.

Don't be discouraged.  If you're feeling burned out, try mixing things up. Experiment with new techniques. Maybe take some classes or visit art galleries & museums to stir up some new inspiration.

Hope that helps.

Acceptance rate does not affect sales. The simplest explanation is competition. Though the flood of AI assets into the database has slowed down somewhat due to the across-the-board increased rejections, AI assets are still being added at the rate of hundreds of thousands every week and now represent more half of the total assets in the database. It's difficult to find a theme that isn't over-represented in the database. Additionally, Adobe changed the filter panel so that the Generative AI selection is now a "sticky filter". If a Buyer chooses "Exclude Generative AI" that filter remains in place until they clear it. Even if they close the session and come back a day or a week later the filter is still in place.

You are expecting too much. Earning that much, then and now, is quite an exception. Your rejections do not effect your sales. Asset placement in searches rely on:

  • the customer's search terms
  • your meta data
  • your previous sales of that asset
  • asset submission (maybe approval) date

You are talking about a drop in sales of 75%.  There must be another reason.
Do you have more competition offering your assets? Are your assets no longer in demand?

Thank you for your comment. I may be expecting too much but I've been working day and night for this. Also, earning that much in a lower season but now earning so little in the highest season for stock worries me.
