Editor's Subjective Choices

I have come to accept that sometimes the editor will not like one of my submissions. I had one that was not accepted today, which I understood, until I was searching through submitted images to find where one of mine was in the queue, and happened upon an image where someone literally wrote out 2016 and 2017 with a pen, took a photo and submitted it. It was accepted!!! What? Image number is 131255619. I wish I could show it here.

Which puts into question, is what is considered acceptable that subjective?

I am happy to discuss with you why one of your submitted images is accepted or rejected. However, asking for justification/explanation for review status of content submitted by a contributor that is not involved in the discussion and did not ask for a critique is inappropriate.

To answer your general question..Yes, of course the review process is subjective. Photography and art in general is subjective.

Sheena,

Thanks for the prompt reply, but I guess my point wasn't really clear. I am wondering how in the world the image I mentioned above was approved? I was objecting because it makes me question how much the guidelines depend on the subjectivity of the editor?
