Hi! These 2 photos were rejected and I'm wondering if the community could please help me by providing me with some feedback on them, and if possible providing me with some tips on how to improve my photographic and retouching skills...thanks!

Hi @Eduardo E. V. ,

The first photo is slightly underexposed. It is also slightly over saturated or has a white balance issue. The depth of field is shallow, thus only the fan that is in focus.

yellow skin

Out of focus

The second photo has a white balance issue and is out of focus.

Blue face, Edge not sharp

You need to zoom in on the photos you take at between 100 and 200% before submitting them. Here is a list of issues that you need to look for and correct if possible. You cannot correct focusing in post processing. It is best taking technically correct photos, then use post processing to correct unavoidable errors.

The first thing you need to do is to learn about all the functions of your camera - how to achieve focus exposure, etc. While auto captures are convenient and easy, it most times do not yield the best quality results. Learn to use manual settings. I assume you are using a DSLR camera, if not, here are some tips to take into consideration.

To improve your photography skills, I suggest you buy books or take photography courses. There are a couple LinkedIn links that are engraved in the first link I post here that you can benefit from.

Best wishes

Jacquelin

Thanks! I read the adobe related material a while ago. I was just looking to have some specific observations on the photos because my ego was not allowing me to focus on my mistakes.

Well, it's all in the information. You're welcome to ignore the quality requirements, but it will earn you more refusals.

Refusals are not catastrophic. They are occasions to check your assets again and improve your skills.

Sharp focus has not been achieved in either image. Focus should always be on the eyes. The lighting is rather harsh, and bith seem somewhat underexposed.

It was a mistake to have this session indoors without the help of proper light/flash. Thank you!

I assume they were rejected for Quality Issues? The lighting is very flat, particularly in the second image. The lack of proper focus is expecially apparent in the hair and the green top. The eyes should sparkle in portraits such as these and could be brighter. I don't know if these were photographed close-up or if they were cropped, but either way, the edges are too close to the subject. Think of the buyer. They might want to crop an image in a certain way, or add text.
