Hi, I'm new to Adobe Stock and I'm still learning how the platform works. So far, I've uploaded four photos. Three of them were accepted, while one was rejected due to similar content.

I'm wondering when contributors usually start earning. Is there a minimum number of accepted photos that I need to have in my portfolio before I can start making sales, or is it possible to earn even with just a few accepted images?

I'd appreciate any advice or guidance. Thank you!

Congratulations on getting 3 images accepted Zii  That’s a great start! There isn’t a specific magic number of images you need before you can start earning. I bet some contributors make their first sale with just a few dozen images, while others take longer.

I’ll share my story to encourage you to set your personal goals, to stay focused and consistent contributing good work.

I also asked myself the question you’re asking today... intuitively I knew some answers would be depressing and all over the place. I set my goals for a 3 years timeline, saying to myself, fir this to be fun, I have to be selling $350 per month... It took me 5 months to sell the first 100 photos out of approx. 1000 10% of all assets at the time...for  5 months that seemed bad, instead I went out with my wife to celebrate that accomplishment.

Today 19 months since I started, I’m selling 100 in less than 3 weeks, and between Adobe and Getty already at my 3 year goal. Here is the kicker, my success rate is only 15%.

Yes a lot of variables matter, quality, keywords, and demand for your style. The most important thing is to focus on consistency. Keep uploading high-quality, unique images regularly. The contributors who do best treat it as a long-term project rather than a quick win. Set your own personal goals for example, mine are 100 new assets per month... and stay patient. Build your portfolio with intention, learn from rejections, keep getting better and overall enjoy the process. Over time, both your skills and your earnings tend to grow together.

There’s no reason why you could be selling more than me in the next 18 months, but I can almost assure you a only with a positive mindset will you achieve that.

Two more things, if you got bit with by the photography bug, you will love shooting video too… SHOOT SHORT VIDEO CLIPS, iPhone’s and similar class devices have great stabilazation and 4k… (follow all the guidelines) and

watch it increase your earnings.  The other thing is that now I want to celebrate which 3 photos were accepted, so share them here.

Keep going, you’re on the right track!

Cheers!

Here's a weird example. I have a website with 324 pictures. Most of them have not sold. There is one winner picture that I created that has 87 downloads on it. This was in a six-month period. There are another ten pictures that have up to ten downloads. The rest have zero. So there really isn't a good answer to how many pictures you have to have before you start making money. It depends on if you get a picture that clients really like.

Not weird at all. Once an asset is sold, it stands a better chance of showing up on the first two or three pages of subsequent search results from a buyer looking for similar assets. That’s the algorithm working in the contributor’s favor. For a change. :) The top sellers on my first Dashboard page range from 200 at the top to 4 at bottom.

Hi @Zii

There is no way to predict when you’ll start earning. There are millions of contributors and billions of assets for buyers to choose from. Also, more of what is in demand, which is constantly changing, usually sell. A combination of volume, diversity and quality are fundamental factors that determine when you start earning.

Volume: You need to grow your portfolio so that it will reach a volume that potential customers can better find your assets.
Quality: You need to place emphasis on submitting the best quality you can. Doing so will attract more viewers to your files, thus keeping them at the top of the search engine.
Consistency: You need to be consistently submitting works.
Keywords: You must add relevant keywords so that the relevant assets return in the correct search.
Diversity: You need to focus on subject, category and file type diversity. This will increase your potential of getting sales more frequently. Avoid submitting similar files. Similar submissions will hurt your portfolio. No customer wants to be looking at multiple pages of the same thing or variation of the same thing.

Selections from high quality, large and diversified portfolios get curated in more packages, which increase sales volume and frequency.

Therefore, my suggestion is to enjoy the ride while you consistently submit high quality assets and observe the Adobe guidelines. The sales will come.

Best wishes
Jacquelin

One thing you need to understand is that stock is not a side-hustle, no matter what YouTube videos would have you believe. You can devote as little or as much time to it as you want, but one’s success will vary on a number of factors, including to what degree you spend your time creating, keywording, and uploading new assets.

3 assets isn’t enough inventory to judge.

How long is a piece of string?

We can’t predict when or if you’ll make sales. There are too many unknown factors involved.

By some estimates, you need 6,000+ high-quality assets & a diverse portfolio to sell regularly. That’s not to say you can’t make sales sooner. But that’s the goal for creating a sustainable second income. Everyone’s mileage varies.

Variety, diversification, quality, and thorough and accurate titles and keywords are essential to achieving success.

Some contributors start seeing regular sales with as few as 500-600 assets. Others, 1000-2000 or more. It can depend on the quality of the assets, whether or not the assets are in demand, one’s expertise and titling and keywording assets, if the assets are videos, photographs, or AI, etc. Selling stock is becoming increasingly competitive, considering there are 900 million assets available on Adobe stock.

Yes. Bear in mind, when a buyer searches for an asset, only the first 100 pages containing 100 assets each reveal the results of such a search. If the subject they are looking for appears in the first few pages of the results, that’s the one they’ll purchase. Few buyers have the time to look through all 100 pages. Their first inclination would probably be to attempt another search with a different string of keywords. And again, they’ll only look through the first few pages. So good titles and keywords are your first line of defense next to submitting quality material, in-demand assets.

The number of assets has no role as to whether or not an asset sells.  It does however,  increase the chances of selling an asset. Demand, quality, meta data, number of times previously sold  and  the submission date are the factors that make assets be seen in the search process.
