How Does Adobe Stock Search Ranking Work for Titles and Keywords?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how the Adobe Stock search algorithm works.

I add relevant keywords to my icon sets, but I notice that some keywords seem to rank better while other relevant keywords don’t.

  • How does Adobe Stock decide which keywords/assets rank higher?

  • How important are the title and the first 10 keywords?

  • How should I write the title to improve search visibility?

  • Should I use the main search term in both the title and keywords?

  • Does the order of keywords affect ranking?

For example, if I create a “Business Communication Icon Set,” what would be the best way to write the title and arrange the keywords?

I’d really appreciate advice from experienced Adobe Stock contributors. Thank you!

No one knows for sure.  But it’s probably based on how closely the user’s search terms match available content.

Some friendly advice: stay away from icons. You’re way too late to that party. Your chance of finding buyers for icons is close to zero.

https://stock.adobe.com/search?k=icon  155 million results

https://stock.adobe.com/search?k=icon+business  37 million results

https://stock.adobe.com/search?k=vector+icon+business  29 million results

Find something with less representation to submit. For some inspiration ideas, see links below.

Hope that helps.

These two links answer some of your questions and will help you choose your titles and tags:

Some insights:

Regarding what makes an asset relevant, it mostly comes down to its core qualities combined with seasonality (like Christmas content performing best during that time of year).

You might think, "If the image or video is really good, people will find it even if I don't worry about titles and tags." On the contrary, no matter the quality, an asset will only be discovered if its metadata matches the buyer's search terms. While some assets are recommended through visual similarity, relying on that alone isn't a safe bet; it's much better to focus on accurate and honest metadata.

I believe future search engines might work more like a conversational chat where buyers just describe what they need. That would certainly save us all the time we currently spend on metadata..

Simple answers: Yes, first 10 are the most important, write titles that accurately describe the asset, using keywords from the title certainly is a good practice, and yes, order matters. Commonly use keywords at the top of the list can result in a similar content refusal.
