Question

My vector illustrations were rejected for “Similar content in our collection.” I checked Adobe Stock and other platforms but couldn’t find similar work. Could someone explain why this happened?

I recently uploaded a series of vector illustrations, but the files were rejected with the reason “Similar content in our collection.” I checked Adobe Stock and other platforms to see if there was any similar content, but I couldn’t find anything that closely matches my work.

Could anyone please explain why this might have happened?

Let’s take an example. If I do a search for Valentines or Valentines Day I get well over 14 million results. Valentine’s hearts nets over 8 million results. The subject in general is thus over-represented. Essentially, even if the asset had been accepted, the likelihood of it showing up on the first few pagers of 100 pages of search results is next to nil. Similar content rejects are most likely being made by a bot that looks at keywords and titles. If it sees too many that resemble other popular keywords in the database, there’s a good chance the assets will be rejected. Frustrating, I know. But it has been this way for a number of months now and there’s not much to be done about it except for using very unique (but still relevant) titles and keywords and hoping for the best.

Are you saying that the reason for the rejection isn’t content similarity, but rather the use of similar keywords and titles?

Basically, yes. That’s what we suspect. It’s possible the assets either a) never make it in front of a moderator, or 2) the asset is presented to the moderator but flagged as possibly being very similar with respect to content and they make an executive decision. But those are just theories.
