Hi,

I"d love to improve. Can anyone tell me why you think this may have been rejected, please? Thank you for your time and help!

Correct answer RALPH_L

There is some, not much though, noise in the photo. The wall should be level. The pipe behind its head is distracting. The feathers around its bill are blurred.

Hi @sarahd_tn ,

I suggest you add a little more exposure in post processing. That should do it.

Best wishes

Thank you so much for taking the time to offer feedback. If you don't mind, I have some follow-up questions to help me with future images. I agree the pipe is distracting. Would that fall under quality issues? Is composition criteria for being rejected? Also, I made sure the lower wall next to the creek was level as I felt that was the most obvious line and it was the most central. Is that not the best approach? In general, do all horizontal lines in an image need to be level? Are noise and blur to the degree as seen in this image something worth trying to correct or is it not something you could really fix enough to be accepted? Thank you so much for answering these follow-up questions if you have time. If not, thank you again for your initial reply!

Yes quality includes composition.  Most good composition in photos, paintings & illustration is based on the Rule of Thirds.

https://petapixel.com/rule-of-thirds/

Likewise, most images are anchored horizontally or vertically although it's not always possible to do both at the same time.  But the image should be straight on at least one axis to ground it.

An example that uses vertical and diagonal lines.

Hope that helps.
