OT: Happy Halloween

There is a disruption in the polar vortex currently that has dipped into our region, so the temperature for Halloween was very cold here. It was 76/24c a few days ago, and it was around 40f/4c last night. I believe it dropped below 32f/0c later last night. It was pretty chilly for little kids! As a tradition we start a fire with our neighbors and hand out candy. We really needed the warmth last night!

All Saints' Day - November 1st in Poland.

Halloween is only a commercial event!

Instead, lanterns are placed on graves.

Can't really say ' Happy All Saints' Day'!

It's a very somber day!

No, you can't say that.

It's the day we (in Luxembourg, Catholic country too) visit the graves and think about our loved ones, that passed away, with a religious ceromony. Normally, after that the family gathers and family gossip is exchanged. First it's somber, but the second part I always appreciated, as we saw cusins uncles and aunts and, well, my grandmother, as she was the surviving partner.

Fun image - Happy Halloween. I'm dressing as Ruth Bader Ginsburg (black robe and lace collar) and handing out candy out on the driveway as the neighborhood kids walk by. It will probably be all over by 6:00, which is what I'm hoping for !

LOL.

It has been wickedly windy here. Decorations that didn't blow away had to be taken down. I'm not expecting a lot of kids at the door so I bought treats that we enjoy.

Why of topic. It's for sure on topic. Even that I do not like Halloween. But that is a local appreciation as we did not celebrate Halloween until commerce detected the possibility to do business with that. So sorry children, no sweets. (we have Lichtmess day ... the day of the light... where children walk from house to house with a lampion ...preferably home made... and sing a song and get rewarded with sweets and money. Sounds really nice!

Its a real shame the churches around here don't seem to be on the ball about this holiday. We need more excuses to wear costumes and get free stuff. LOL🙃

It's a pagan holiday. If you check with (catholic) churches, it's All Saints and All Souls, that replaces Halloween. However my point is that Halloween (which is a very old holiday) gets over-commercialized, even in regions where you traditionally do not celebrate Halloween.

If Halloween is your tradition, or if you simply love to disguise in fancy costumes, do so. That's up to you.
