OT: Heartbreaking art accident :-(

I took this snapshot at the Eli Broad Museum in Los Angeles [forgive the poor picture quality.] This awesome, larger-than-life-sized sculpture that resembles metalic balloon sculpture of a dog is actually made of porcelain.

And this is what happens when gallery patrons are allowed to touch artwork. [DO NOT DO THIS!!]

The gallery has been contacted by people wanting to purchase 'broken balloon dog.' The artist, Jeff Koons, might be persuaded to use 'broken balloon dog' in a new art piece.

The shards could end up being worth more than the sculpture. You can't make this stuff up... 🙃

They need to be careful, the visitor might hold the rights on the shattering, as this was a follow-up life performance… The only problem is, that it is an unapproved modification. It was not uploaded to Adobe stock, which would have made a (virtual) shattering a rightful modification. 😜

I hope the visitor has a good insurance. My coffee cup does not breack by gently touching it. Even if it is delicate porcelain.

I just read an article that said she tapped it with her fingernail, and it fell over and shattered. Who goes to a museum and touches the art???? Of course, she won't have to pay for their loss, but she should have a huge dose of remorse and guilt !

Yes, but there was no protective case around the sculpture.
